Oregon coach arrested on child porn charges
Man allegedly took pictures while kids were changing
MEDFORD, Ore. – A gymnastics coach at southern Oregon studios has been arrested on child pornography charges.
The Mail Tribune newspaper reported Tuesday that Jeffrey Scott Bettman, of Medford, who was also a sports photographer, faces 30 counts. Authorities allege he took clandestine photographs of students while they were changing clothes during private photo sessions.
Authorities say Bettman worked at three different gymnastics studios over the past nine years, most recently at Ultimate Sports Gymnastics in Grants Pass.
Detective Josh Nieminen of the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force said photos of at least 30 young people, dating to 2003, were found on Bettman’s home computer. Authorities say none have been identified.
Bettman was held in the Jackson County Jail. Bail is $250,000. He is due in court Nov. 14.
