In brief: Food bank plans giveaway Friday at Millwood church

MILLWOOD – Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, and Second Harvest Inland Northwest Food Bank will hand out food in the church parking lot Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Free produce and perishable products for families in need of food assistance will be available and no appointment is necessary. Participants must be present to receive their food. Boxes will be needed to carry food.

U-Hi Craft Fair this Saturday and Sunday

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Instrumental Music Parent Association and University High School will host the U-Hi Craft Fair on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Items for sale include clothing, jewelry and gifts for the home.

Scholarship group hosts tea, fashion show

NORTHWEST – The Miss Spokane Scholarship Organization will host the Crowns for Kids fashion show and tea on Saturday at the Garland Church, 2011 W. Garland Ave., at 1 p.m. to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss Spokane Scholarship Fund.

The fundraiser will include fashions from Audrey’s, A Boutique; Calamity Jane’s; Sagebrush Old West; Tuxedo Gallery; and 12-year-old local designer Angel Moore. Miss Spokane royalty will model the fashions.

Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased at both Finders Keepers locations, 309 W. Second Ave. or 18 W. Main Ave.

Seminar on Saturday for women 55 and older

LOGAN – Women 55 and older are invited to “Aging is not for Sissies” at The Franciscan Place, 1016 N. Superior St., on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The event will be a day of sharing and learning about the second half of life. Coffee and tea will be provided, but participants should bring a sack lunch.

Kalispel Tribe history presented Saturday at MAC

BROWNE’S ADDITION – Author Jane Fritz along with Francis Cullooyah will present “The Camas Path: History of the Kalispel Tribe of Indians” at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Museum of Arts and Culture, 2316 W. First Ave., in the Gilkey Room.

Fritz is the author of “Legendary Lake Pend Oreille.” Cullooyah is the Kalispel Tribe’s cultural director.

The presentation will explore the history and culture of the Kalispel people. It is funded in part by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council.

Police group to host community meeting

EAST CENTRAL – The Spokane Police Accountability and Reform Coalition will have a community meeting Wednesday at the East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The meeting is an opportunity for residents to discuss issues concerning the coalition, to share concerns, to learn of new developments and how to help.
