Pullman wins State 2A soccer opener

Bre Daugherty scored 3 minutes into overtime Wednesday as Pullman (19-1) qualified for the State 2A girls soccer quarterfinals by defeating visiting Selah 2-1.

Daugherty, with an assist from Becky Birchett, scored from 4 yards out on an angle. Birchett, assisted by Daugherty, scored Pullman’s first goal, at 47 minutes. Selah’s tying goal was just the third the Greyhounds have allowed in their last 12 matches.

Pullman, on a 19-match winning streak, will travel to West Valley (Yakima) at 1 p.m. Saturday.

• Alyssa Wickenhagen scored her 29th and 30th goals of the season to lead 19-0 West Valley (Yakima) to a 2-0 win that eliminated the West Valley Eagles (13-6).

State 1A

Grace Martin finished with two goals and one assist as visiting La Salle eliminated Lakeside 4-1 at Nine Mile Falls. Jocelyn Cook-Cox fed Megan Hord for the Eagles’ goal, early in the second half. Lakeside (13-4) had won 11 consecutive matches.
