Lauren Wells’ Nov. 1 letter, “Chivalry takes a seat,” saddened me. I don’t ride the bus, so have not witnessed the lack of chivalry she describes. I have found, however, that most of people I encounter on the Eastern Washington University campus, and the rest of Cheney, do hold the door for me, which I find very refreshing.
I feel very fortunate to live in Cheney, where nearly everyone I encounter acknowledges complete strangers with a smile, a nod, and/or a “Hi, how are ya?” Whenever we have visitors from another part of the country, they remark about what a friendly city Spokane is. It’s a big city with a small-town atmosphere.
