Federal authorities seek help finding fugitives

Federal authorities are looking for two local fugitives who went on the lam Nov. 4. Brandon Carson, 29, and Wayne Mellgren, 32, walked away from the Spokane Residential Reentry Center without permission and the U.S. Marshals Service issued escape warrants for the two Thursday. The fugitives were at the center, located on East Ferry Avenue, serving the end of their sentences. Carson, who was serving time for involuntary manslaughter, is about 5 feet 9 inches tall, 180 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Mellgren, who was serving a sentence for felon in possession of a firearm, is about 6 feet 3 inches tall, 200 pounds, with green eyes and blond hair. He has numerous tattoos on his neck, arms and chest. The Spokane Residential Reentry Center serves men and women in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and assist with their transition back into the community.
