In brief: Good Samaritans honor veterans

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Good Samaritan Society, 17121 E. Eighth Ave., will honor veterans on Monday in a special celebration, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., in the Towers Dining Room.

The morning event will feature Spokane Mayor David Condon as the guest speaker, who will read an honor roll of veterans and share his thoughts about Veterans Day. Guests from the fire and police departments, along with members of the Spokane Valley City Council will also be in attendance.

Veterans Day closure rundown

SPOKANE COUNTY – There will be several closures in observance of the Veterans Day holiday on Monday.

The offices of the cities of Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake will be closed. There is no school in the Central Valley, East Valley, West Valley and Freeman school districts. The Central Valley school board meeting normally held on Mondays has been moved to Tuesday.

Trash pickup will be unaffected.

Turkey bingo to be played Sunday

SPOKANE VALLEY – St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 503 N. Walnut Road, will host turkey bingo Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m.

More than 20 turkeys will be awarded to winners and there will also be door prizes. Food items will be available.

Valley Christian holding vet shows

SPOKANE VALLEY – Valley Christian School will present two Veterans Day shows Monday to honor veterans.

The elementary school choir will sing patriotic music and the drama team will perform.

The first show will be at New Life Assembly of God Church, 10920 E. Sprague Ave. The second will be at 1 p.m. at the Union Gospel Mission, 1224 E. Trent Ave.
