Official: Harassing emails led to FBI probe
WASHINGTON (AP) — A former spokesman for ex-CIA Director David Petraeus says Petraeus is “truly remorseful” about an affair that led to his resignation Friday.
Steve Boylan, the retired general’s former spokesman, spoke to Petraeus on Saturday.
Boylan says Petraeus “knows he screwed up,” and is going to try to heal with his family.
An FBI investigation into harassing emails allegedly sent by Petraeus biographer Paula Broadwell led to revelations that Petraeus and Broadwell were having an affair. Both are married.
President Barack Obama accepted Petraeus’s resignation on Friday.
