• Ka’Deem Carey , Arizona, ran for a Pac-12 record 366 yards and tied the conference record with five TDs in the Wildcats’ 56-31 rout of Colorado. The previous record was 357 yards by Washington State’s Rueben Mayes at Oregon in 1984.

• Montee Ball , Wisconsin, ran for 198 yards and scored three times in the Badgers’ 62-14 win over Indiana. Ball passed 1998 Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams for second on the FBS list with 77 career TDs, leaving him one behind all-time leader Travis Prentice of Miami (Ohio).

• Seth Doege , Texas Tech, threw for 476 yards and three TDs in the Red Raiders’ 41-34 double- overtime win over Kansas.

• Mike Rocco , Virginia, completed 18 passes in a row at one stretch and finished 29 of 37 for 300 yards, including a touchdown pass with 6 seconds left to give the Cavaliers a 41-40 victory against Miami.

• Clint Chelf , Oklahoma State, threw for 292 yards and four TDs in his first career start as the Cowboys handed West Virginia its fourth straight loss, 55-44.

• Tyler Bray , Tennessee, threw for 404 yards and four TDs in the Vols’ 51-48 overtime loss to Missouri.

• Mike Piatkowski, Drake, threw for 366 yards and a career-high five TDs in a 45-20 victory over Butler.

K-State No. 1?

 Collin Klein and third-ranked Kansas State bolstered their chances in the national championship chase by doing what Alabama failed to do.

 The Wildcats beat one of the newcomers in their conference.

 Klein, the Heisman Trophy hopeful starting a week after an apparent head injury, ran for two touchdowns for No. 2 Kansas State in a 23-10 victory at TCU, which is in its first season in the Big 12.

 Only a few minutes after Kansas State’s game started, and a rare Klein turnover, SEC newcomer and former Big 12 team Texas A&M finished off its 29-24 victory at Alabama, the No. 1 team in the BCS standings and AP poll.

 That set up the Wildcats to likely take over the top spot when the new BCS rankings come out tonight. Kansas State, 10-0 for only the second time under coach Bill Snyder, was already No. 2 in the BCS standings, one spot ahead of Oregon.

• 12 – Straight home wins by No. 10 Clemson, a school record.

• 146 – Wins by Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, moving him past Bud Wilkinson for second in school history and 11 shy of Barry Switzer’s school record.

• 738 – Career completions by Syracuse’s Ryan Nassib, a Big East record.

Royal tribute

 The Texas Longhorns paid tribute to former football coach Darrell Royal during their game against Iowa State, honoring the man who won 11 conference titles and two national championships in his 20 years leading the program.

 Royal, who died Wednesday at age 88, won 167 games at Texas from 1957 to 1976, a mark that still stands as a UTrecord.
