Charles Henry, “Charlie” Nelson, MD, 89, died on October 28, 2012. He lived a full life of achievement, travel and adventure, beginning in Fargo ND and then Lake Park MN in 1923, the child of Lawrence and Henrietta Nelson. Charlie served honorably in the military in World War II, excelled at University of Minnesota medical school, and became a talented general surgeon. He served in Vietnam as part of a volunteer physicians program. He enjoyed hunting, and was an avid pilot and sailor. His marriage to Wilhma B. Nelson, MD, who subsequently died from cancer …

Charles Henry, “Charlie” Nelson, MD, 89, died on October 28, 2012. He lived a full life of achievement, travel and adventure, beginning in Fargo ND and then Lake Park MN in 1923, the child of Lawrence and Henrietta Nelson. Charlie served honorably in the military in World War II, excelled at University of Minnesota medical school, and became a talented general surgeon. He served in Vietnam as part of a volunteer physicians program. He enjoyed hunting, and was an avid pilot and sailor. His marriage to Wilhma B. Nelson, MD, who subsequently died from cancer, produced four children, Dulcie Matsel and Karen Audilett of Tucson, Barbara Nelson, New Jersey, and Larry Nelson, Oregon, and two grandchildren, Samantha and Hanna. Charlie is survived by his wife of 22 years, Marian, and her son Jim Thomas of Deer Lake WA and granddaughter Ashley Niehenke of Ammon, ID. Marian and Charlie summered in Spokane WA and wintered in Ajo AZ. Charlie and Marian’s adventures included fishing and wintering in Alaska on the ocean-going sailboat built by Charlie, traveling to Norway and to Chile. Charlie will be missed by friends and family. A service will be held in the Spring.
