Obituary: Strohmaier, Patricia Ann
Age 79
May 24, 1933 - November 5, 2012
In the quiet pre-dawn hours with the stars to light her way, Patsy Strohmaier took her last breath to join those who went before her, leaving us behind to mourn her absence, yet celebrate all the ways she enriched our lives.
We were privileged to know this woman who was a stranger to no one, always ready with a smile, always ready to chat.
She created a loving and supportive home for her family, living a life filled with family and friends who thought there would always be more time.
But God had other plans.
Patsy lost her battle with cancer too soon.
We take comfort it was on her terms, ever under the care of her adoring and devoted husband, Al, and her network of supporters second to none.
She was born to Clarence and Gladys Dahl in Spokane.
In high school at Central Valley, she met Al Strohmaier, the love of her life.
The two married June 10, 1951 and spent the next 61 years together in partnership as husband and wife.
She is survived by Al and children Debra (Tom Lewis), Alan (Shelley), John (Cathy) and Tom (Lori).
Patsy was a devoted and proud grandmother, staying connected to the lives of her grandchildren Amy (Greg) Prado, Adam (Yumi) Branson, Tanya (Curtis) Starkel, Kyle (Raena) Strohmaier, Samantha (Walter) Crow and Ty Strohmaier, watching them grow up to become responsible and delightful adults.
The third generation will see themselves in photos with her and be told about their great-grandmother, who marveled at their brilliance and rejoiced in their firsts - smiles, steps, words, school.
Cade Prado, Mia and Reina Branson, Will Crow, Knox Starkel and Presley Strohmaier inherit her love of language, competitive spirit and quick humor.
Patsy also leaves with love sisters Lois Abbott and Claire (Jay) Derning, brother Carl (Marge) Dahl, and many nieces and nephews.
We know she was welcomed to heaven by her parents, her brothers Robert, Willard and Bruce, and a contingent of family and friends.
We ask that instead of flowers, contributions in honor of Patsy be made to Hospice of Spokane.
Family will gather with friends on November 16 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church Spokane, 318 S. Cedar Street, to commemorate Patsy’s life and share memories of her.
Pastor Betsy Wynne will officiate.
Interment will be at a later date at the Lind, WA Cemetery.
