Spokane firefighters on scene of apartment fire

Spokane firefighters are attacking an apartment building fire at 728 E. Mission Ave. in the Gonzaga University area.

About two blocks of Mission Avenue starting at Hamilton Street and stretching west have been blocked off while firefighters work.

Flames are showing through the roof and students have gathered to watch the fire. Firefighters are attacking the fire via ladders to the roof.

There are four apartments in the building, which is a converted house. Bill Cox, who lives on the ground floor, said one of the units was not occupied. He said he didn’t know yet whether he’d lost anything in the fire.
