Holiday wine celebration

The Spokane Winery Association kicks off the holiday season with its annual celebration of local wines starting Friday.

Holiday Wine Fest runs noon to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the 23 winery tasting rooms in the area. There will be tastings, discounts and advice from winemakers and wine lovers. A list or map of all the participating wineries can be found online at www.spokanewineries.net.

New this year, wineries are working with a dozen local restaurants to eliminate the corkage fees. Purchase an entrée at one of the participating restaurants and show your receipt for the same-day wine purchase at a Washington winery and the corkage fee will be waived on one bottle.

Luna celebrates 20 years

Luna is launching its 20th year of business with dining deals to celebrate the reason for its success – loyal customers.

Owners William and Marcia Bond are inviting diners to come for lunch and get two entrees for $20. For dinner, the anniversary special is a three-course prix fixe menu – salad, entrée and dessert – for $20.

Luna, 5620 S. Perry St., opened to customers for the first time the day after Thanksgiving.

Chestnuts at Cassano’s

Holiday cooking season has arrived and so have the chestnuts at Cassano’s Italian Market, 2002 E. Mission Ave.

Owner Carl Naccarato said the jumbo-sized chestnuts from RC Farms in McMinnville, Ore., are a popular addition to seasonal recipes.
