Obituary: Pope, Donna Jean

Age 80

POPE, Donna Jean (Age 80) Passed away on November 13, 2012, Donna was a 48 year resident of Spokane and Spokane Valley, where she lived at the time of her death.

Donna was born on April 1, 1932 on her grand-parent’s farm in Enders Nebraska.

Her parents were Clarence and Ethel Embury.

She attended high school in Nehawka, Nebraska, where she graduated valedictorian of her class.

She married Donald E. Pope on July 22, 1950 in Nehawka, Nebraska.

They raised five children, starting in Nebraska, then in Spokane after they made the decision to move their growing family to the northwest.

They fell in love with the area while on family vacations, traveling to Oregon and Washington.

Donna was creative and talented.

She taught herself to paint beautiful landscapes in oil.

She enjoyed exploring many other ways of expressing her creativity.

Throughout her life, Donna enjoyed gardening.

She became the family plant expert whom everyone relied on for advice, and gained fame as the one with all green fingers.

She could not get enough of flowers and plants.

Though her home and yard was crowded with her favorites, she always found room for “one more”.

Donna is survived by her mother, Ethel Embury, of Lakeview, CO, Her sister Marilyn Speakman, of Oscoda, MI and brother Ron Embury of Golden, CO. She is also survived by her children Tom Pope (Lorrie) of Valley Ford, WA, Jane Maines, of Toledo OR, Sue Morris (Derrick) of Salinas, CA , Mike Pope of Vancouver, WA and Sharon Vasconcelos (Ken) of Spokane Valley, WA and her dear friend, Sue Mansir, of Spokane Valley, WA .

She is survived by sixteen grandchildren, twenty one great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Preceding her in death was her husband Don in 2003.

Her youngest brother Jerry Embury passed away in 2001.

A Funerial Service for everyone who wants to gather to remember Donna, will be held on Saturday, November 17th, 2012 at Heritage Chapel at 2 PM.

Officiating is Reverend Claude Duty.

There will be a reception immediately following the service.

There will be another service On December 1, 2012 in Nebraska City Nebraska, where her children will escort her to be laid to rest next to her loving husband Don.

Donna is now in the garden to beat all gardens.
