Age 92

CROWE, Catharine L. Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Friend, Catharine L. Crowe passed away peacefully from this earth into heaven on Wednesday November 14th, 2012 at the age of 92.

She was born on February 12th, 1920 in Elberton, WA to Leo J. and Mary L. Hubner.

The family later moved to a farm near Oakesdale, WA where Catharine attended grade school in a one room rural schoolhouse near their farm and later attended Oakesdale High School where she graduated in 1938.

After graduation she met the love of her life, Clyde J. Crowe, and they were married on September 9, 1938 in their home near the family farm.

In the spring of 1946 Clyde and Catharine welcomed their only child to the family, James Clayton Crowe.

Soon after, they moved to Oakesdale where Catharine lived until approximately four years ago, when she moved to a retirement center in Spokane to be closer to her family.

Catharine was active in the community of Oakesdale and held several part-time jobs over the years, including school bus driver, substitute rural mail carrier, election board member, farm truck driver during harvest time, and others.

She was a long time member of the Oakesdale Grange #1025 and served as secretary of the Grange for many years.

She was a member of the Oakesdale Community Presbyterian Church.

Catharine was an active member of the local bridge club and loved the regular club meetings and the opportunity to visit with her friends and neighbors.

Catharine was preceded in death by her husband Clyde who died in 1985, and by her brothers Jim, Fred, Ralph, and Roger.

She is survived by one brother, Arnold J. Hubner of Anderson Island, WA, and her son Jim Crowe and his wife Toni of Spokane, and three grandchildren, Brandon Crowe and his wife Andrea of Portland, OR, Kevin Crowe of Hermosa Beach, CA, and Lisa Kingsly and her husband Bernie of Spokane, and two great-grandsons, Dylan and Nolan Crowe.

Services will be held on Tuesday November 20th, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Oakesdale Community Presbyterian Church, Erik Buhl officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oakesdale Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the wonderful owner and staff of Fairview Assisted Living Center in Spokane for their loving care and concern for Catharine during the final months of her life.

She became a part of their family, and they became a part of ours.

And especially Dana, for being Mom’s mischievous partner and loving friend during her stay.

We would also like to thank Horizon Hospice for their caring help and assistance in making Mom comfortable in the last few days of her life.

The family suggests memorial gifts be given to the Community Presbyterian Church at Oakesdale, or to the charity of their choice.

KRAMER FUNERAL HOME, 309 E. HENKLE ST., TEKOA, WA is handling the arrangements.
