Hal was born August 30, 1923 to John and Christine Johns in St. Paul, MN.
His family moved to Spokane at age seven.
He graduated from Gonzaga High School in 1941.
He went to work at Safeway as a meat cutter in 1942.
He joined the Army in 1943 and served in France.
After the war, he returned to work at Safeway for 41 years and retired in 1985.
He enjoyed 55 years at his Loon Lake summer cabin and many winters vacationing in Hawaii.
His greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by his wife Dodie of 64 years, his sons Steve and Gary (Anna); his grandchildren Brian (Kelly), Mark, Scott, Chad (Gracie) and Kelli (John); his great-grandchildren Noah and Ashley.
He was preceded in death by his sister Jean, his brother Jim and his daughter-in-law Judy.
