Free or low-cost holiday meals

Many organizations offer free or low-cost Thanksgiving meals, or food baskets for people to prepare their own holiday feast:

Thanksgiving Turkey Baskets - The Salvation Army will be distributing baskets that include a frozen turkey and all the fixings to cook your own dinner. Proof of residency (such as a piece of mail) and picture ID are required. Tuesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Spokane Arena, 720 W. Mallon Ave. Free. (509) 325-6821.

Celebrate Thanksgiving at Corbin - A Thanksgiving meal of roasted turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cranberry apple crisp, dinner roll, and milk or juice will be served Wednesday at noon in the Corbin Senior Center, 827 W. Cleveland Ave. Cost is $3.50 at the door. RSVP by today at (509) 327-1584.

Thanksgiving Eve Dinner - Everyone is welcome to this free dinner on Wednesday, 12:30-2:30 p.m., City Gate, 170 S. Madison St. (509) 455-9670.

UGM Citywide Thanksgiving Dinner - Union Gospel Mission will hold a free Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday at the Spokane Convention Center for anyone who might otherwise be alone or go without. Enter at the breezeway between the INB Performing Arts Center and the Convention Center. Doors open at 3:40 p.m., and food will be served from 4-6 p.m. The address is 334 W. Free Thanksgiving Dinner - On Thursday, Mid City Concerns Meals on Wheels will offer a free meal; everyone is welcome. Times: 11:30 a.m. for seniors; 12:30 p.m. for the general public. The address is 1222 W. Second Ave. (509) 456-6597.

Thanksgiving Community Dinner - Second-annual event with turkey and all the fixings. Everyone is welcome to this free event. Presented by KYMS and the Christian Coalition on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fedora, 1726 W. Kathleen Ave. in Coeur d’Alene. (208) 966-4078.

Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner - Annual event presented by Gonzaga University, Sodexo Food Services and St. Aloysius Parish on Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. The location of this free event is Gonzaga University, Cataldo Hall, 330 E. Boone Ave. (509) 313-7001.

Free Thanksgiving Day Meal - Traditional, sit-down meal includes live music. Call to volunteer, make a monetary donation, or to arrange transportation or meal delivery. Thursday from noon to 2 p.m., Lake City Center, 1916 Lakewood Drive, Coeur d’Alene. (509) 226-3208.

Free Community Holiday Meal - Sponsored by St. George’s Catholic Church on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. The location is St. George’s Catholic Church, parish basement hall, 2010 N. Lucas St., Post Falls. (208) 773-4715.
