Obituary: Stover, B. Dale

Age 90

STOVER, B. Dale B. Dale Stover, lifelong St. John resident, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012 in Richland.

He was 90.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, November 23rd at the St. John Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the St. John Christian Church.

Dale was born December 21, 1921 in St. John to James and Ada (Bageant) Stover.

He graduated from St. John High School.

Dale worked as a mechanic for McConnell’s Hardware.

He married Barbara Pratt on June 9, 1945.

They called St. John home their entire lives.

Dale worked as a farm hand for Gene Webb for a while and after they moved into town he partnered with Webb’s in the grocery business.

Dale ran the grocery store until 1968.

He later worked as the fertilizer manager for St. John Grange and then as a bookkeeper for the St. John Grain Growers until retiring.

Dale was an active member of the St. John Christian Church and had served on the church board.

He was also a past board member of the St. John Cemetery and a member of the Oddfellows Lodge.

In earlier years he enjoyed bowling on the Rosalia bowling leagues.

He and Barbara loved to travel and they had taken several bus trips in later years.

Dale loved working in his yard and taking care of his flowers and garden.

Barbara passed away in 2010.

Dale is survived by two daughters, Betty (Jim) Lakey of Kennewick and Nancy (Greg) Benner of Spokane; four grandchildren, Kevin Lakey, Ben (Susanna) Lakey, Erik Benner and Kyle (Ellen) Benner and one great-grandchild, Lane Benner.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Boyd and his parents.

The family suggests memorials be made to the St. John Christian Church.
