Obituary: Carroll, Betty L.

Age 87

CARROLL, Betty L. (Age 87) Passed away peacefully on November 19, 2012.

Betty was born December 17, 1924 to Clarence Arthur and Lena Tapley in Neola, Iowa.

She was the youngest of three children born to them, but her parents raised three of her mother’s nieces and nephew until they all were married, so it was a large family during the depression years.

She grew up going to many schools in a school year because her parents were construction workers and when roads were completed they moved to different states, sometimes she went to five different schools in a school year.

Betty married Alfred Marion Hansen February 14, 1955 in a big formal wedding at the First Christian Church in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho.

Alfred Marion Hansen died January 21, 1976.

After raising her two sons and being widowed for seven years, she married John Martin Carroll August 23, 1983 at Pacific Avenue Christian Church in Spokane, WA.

John and Betty cruised the world with her sister Clara Doris Sears, and brother-in-law, Lyle Sears, during the years they were married.

John Martin Carroll died December 8, 1988.

Her parents, Clarence and Lena Tapley, brother also preceded her in death.

As did her three cousins, who lived with them, Tillie Tracy, Albert Munn and Ann Brown.

Betty is survived by her sons, Alfred C. Hansen of Coeur D’ Alene (her daughter in law Jackie Hansen) and Clarence M. Hansen of Spokane; grandchildren Tiffany, Chad and Derek Hansen; her sister Clara D. Sears and many cousins.

Betty worked many different jobs from telephone and telegraph operator at Columbus, Kansas, office jobs at Portland, Oregon shipyard, Hanford, WA to bookkeeper for Cabinet Works and Wilson Logging and finally retiring after 40 plus years working for Naval Supply Depot at Velox, Federal Housing Administration at Kennewick and Spokane and US Postal Service.

She also enjoyed over 32 years of retirement in good health.

She was called by her renters the best landlord in town.

Never raising their rent or charging a deposit from John and Lucille Carroll’s house.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA.

At her request no services will be held.
