Eagles earn first victory

Venky Jois scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Eastern Washington won its first basketball game of the season, holding on to beat South Carolina Upstate 75-70 on Wednesday night in the third game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Santa Clara, Calif.

Torrey Craig nailed the first three in the second half at the 2:38 mark for the Spartans, tying the game at 67-67. The Eagles (1-4) responded with a dunk from Martin Seiferth, with 2:10 left, taking a 69-67 lead, and never looked back.

Eastern takes on host Santa Clara on Friday at 4:15 p.m.

Vandals sign pair

Idaho basketball coach Don Verlin announced the signing of two new Vandals to National Letters of Intent during the early singing period.

Forward Ayodele Ojo of Jonesboro, Ark., and State Fair (Mo.) Community College and guard Perrio Callandret of Bothell, Wash., committed to Idaho. Ojo will join the team next season as a junior, while Callandret will be a freshman.
