Schweitzer welcomes skiers this weekend

By The Spokesman-Review

Schweitzer Mountain Resort above Sandpoint has announced it will open two chairlifts for skiing this weekend.

The Basin Express and Musical Chairs lifts will be open 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with discounted lift tickets. Schweitzer will close during the week, then may reopen next Friday if the weather cooperates, the resort said in a news release.

The resort reported 44 inches of snow on Wednesday morning.

Silver Mountain Resort will be operating the gondola to the top of the ski area Friday and Saturday for scenic rides and snow play, such as snowshoeing. The foot of snow covering Kellogg Peak on Wednesday was not enough to begin skiing operations, the resort said in a release.

Lookout Pass also reported about a foot of snow at the top of the chairlifts on Wednesday, with no definite opening date.
