The national president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars is visiting Spokane, starting on Monday and staying through Nov. 28.

Leeanne Lemley will be honored Monday afternoon at a banquet at VFW Post 51 and also Tuesday at a high tea at the Davenport Hotel, and she’ll take a tour of Fairchild Air Force Base.

“During her year in office, our national president visits each of the states, plus Europe and the Pacific Areas,” Jean Rosado, one of the local organizers, wrote in an email.

“This year, our state president, Cindy Burkey, is from Spokane, which is why Lemley is coming here. While here, she tries to meet as many of our local people as she can, of course, especially our veterans and their families, as well as our local military.”

Lemley is a life member of Hartman-Dawson Auxiliary Post 1805 in Fort Madison, Iowa, and she was appointed president this summer.

The Ladies Auxiliary’s theme for 2012-’13 is “serving from the heart for our veterans,” and Lemley plans to focus on female veterans, youth scholarships and support of VFW National Military Services.

The visit is hosted by Ens. John R. Monaghan VFW Post 51 Ladies Auxiliary and events are open to members. The auxiliary is at 300 W. Mission Ave.
