Dry spell does in Vandals in loss to New Mexico

 

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Demetrius Walker scored 19 points Saturday and New Mexico’s bench outscored Idaho’s 34-7 during a 73-58 nonconference men’s basketball victory.

Idaho went scoreless for nearly 9 minutes of the second half as the Lobos pulled away. UI led 49-46 after two Kyle Barone free throws with 14:14 left. The Lobos followed with a 19-0 run.

Walker shot 5 of 5 on 3-pointers as New Mexico (5-0) finished 10 of 20.

New Mexico shot 15 of 22 from the free-throw line while Idaho (1-3) was 4 of 8.

Connor Hill had a game-high 20 points for Idaho, hitting 6 of 12 on 3-pointers. Barone added 16 points.

Hill hit a 3-pointer for a 28-26 Vandals lead with 5 minutes left in the first half. Another Hill 3-pointer with 2 seconds left in the half tied the game at 36.
