Santa Clara defeats EWU in men’s basketball

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Senior forward Marc Trasolini scored a game-high 25 points Friday to power the Santa Clara Broncos to an 89-74 win over Eastern Washington at the College Basketball Experience Hall of Fame Classic.

Trasolini, who missed last season with a knee injury, shot 9 of 16 from the field and 5 of 6 on free throws for the Broncos (5-0). Kevin Foster added 17 points for Santa Clara, which shot 51 percent from the floor and 17 of 21 from the line.

Senior Collin Chiverton led the Eagles (1-5), hitting 4 of 8 on 3-pointers on the way to 19 points. Chiverton has scored 51 points in his last three games.

Justin Crosgile added eight rebounds as Eastern won the rebounding edge 39-29. The Eagles had 16 offensive rebounds, nine more than SCU.

EWU led 18-17 but SCU ended the half with a 21-7 run. The Broncos led by as many as 23 points in the second half.
