Giants ready for Packers’ Cobb

Sun., Nov. 25, 2012

Randall Cobb’s all-purpose reputation precedes him.

So when Giants cornerback and practice squad member Laron Scott got the assignment to play the role of the Packers’ do-everything star in preparation for Sunday’s primetime showdown, he hit the film room and began studying his every move.

Of course, when compiling a scouting report on Cobb, there’s a lot of everything.

“The only way your team’s going to get a good look is if you are going as hard and as fast and as explosive as he does in games,” Scott said. “I just watched the things that he does, where he lines up and the way he runs certain routes – you go out there and try to emulate it the best (you) can. He does a little bit of everything, and at any time, in any game, he can break out with an explosive play.”

Cobb is a wide receiver who lines up outside, in the slot and in the backfield at times, catching passes from reigning league MVP Aaron Rodgers and sometimes carrying the football.

“We’re going to kick to him,” kicker Lawrence Tynes said. “We’re not scared of him. I mean, he’s a great returner, we respect the heck out of him. But we respect all and fear none – we’ve got to kick to him.”

Browns put flags away

The Cleveland Browns have waved off their white-flag giveaway.

Following days of criticism, the Browns have decided to cancel a promotion to hand out white flags to fans before today’s game against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Because white flags symbolize surrender, the giveaway seemed to imply the Browns were giving up against the Steelers.
