She passed away surrounded by family and friends Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Sacred Heart Medical Center after her second battle with cancer.
Leigh graduated from Chadron State College in Nebraska.
As an educator of 41 years, she taught in Hot Springs, South Dakota, East Wenatchee, Entiat and at Shadle Park High School in Spokane.
Her colleagues at Shadle Park were particularly important to her.
She enjoyed teaching and touched so many lives through her career and life.
Leigh was married to Gary Cockerham for 23 years and raised three children.
Being a mother was one of the things Leigh did best and enjoyed the most.
In September of 1995, Leigh met Michael Rohrscheib and this turned into 17 wonderful years together, marrying in 1998.
Both Leigh and Michael retired in the summer of 2011, Leigh from Shadle Park High School and Michael from the Spokane Sheriff’s Office.
They were the love of each other’s lives.
Leigh made friends easily and always made others feel valued.
She had a gift of accepting people for who they were.
One of her greatest strengths was her sense of humor, which was shared by her family.
This humor often got her and her family through tough times.
Leigh’s hobbies included reading, crocheting, gardening, history and art.
She embraced Michael’s passion for Corvettes and Harley Davidsons.
Leigh loved her family and cherished each moment with them.
Leigh is survived by her husband Michael; her daughter Kelly Robertson (Michael) and grandchildren Haley, Tyler, Kyle and Dylan of Wenatchee; son Jeff Cockerham (Amber) of Spokane and daughter Katie Weaver (Ryan) of Wenatchee.
She is also survived by her beloved sister and best friend Bonnie Pickner (Gerry) of Stebbins Alaska and their children: Miranda, Meggan and Sean.
Additionally, Leigh is survived by her father-in-law Robert Rohrscheib; sister-in-law Candice Rohrscheib; as well as stepchildren Danielle Cole (Chris), Rob Rohrscheib (Jill) and their families.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, mother, father and grandson Gavin.
Leigh, Michael and their family would like to thank the incredible Spokane Medical Community: Sacred Heart Medical Center, Cancer Care Northwest, Gamma Knife of Spokane, Spokane Pulmonary Consultants, Spokane Cardiology and the many physicians and medical professionals in those organizations.
The word special is overused in obituaries.
Ask anyone who has had their life touched by Leigh Rohrscheib and you will hear the same thing: Leigh was an incredibly special person to all.
A Memorial Service for Leigh Rohrscheib will be held at Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane, WA on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cancer Care Northwest Foundation to help the many families impacted by cancer in the Inland Northwest.
