Idaho received shipments of contaminated steroid

Associated Press
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Federal health officials say Idaho is among 23 states that received shipments of a steroid linked to a deadly meningitis outbreak. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare says there are no illnesses reported in the state. Spokeswoman Niki Forbing-Orr says two facilities in Idaho received shipments and the agency is working to make sure patients are being protected. Both clinics that received shipments of the steroid produced by the New England Compounding Center in Massachusetts were aware of the recall. Investigators this week found contamination in a sealed vial of the steroid at the company. Tests are under way to determine if it is the same fungus blamed in the outbreak that has sickened 35 people in six states. Five of them have died.
