Spokane Shock sign coach Olson to extension

The Spokane Shock and head coach Andy Olson agreed on a two-year contract extension, the Arena Football League team announced.

“We were extremely happy with the way Coach Olson handled the adversity he faced last season,” owner Brady Nelson said.

“He has proven his ability to identify strong talent and produce at a high level on the field, so we are looking forward to see what he is able to accomplish over the next two seasons.”

Spokane was 10-8 in Olson’s first season, missing the playoffs for the first time in the organization’s seven-year history.

Olson finished with 220 catches in two seasons as a wide receiver for the Shock before joining the coaching staff as offensive coordinator early in the 2011 season. Spokane averaged 59.1 points last season, fifth in the AFL.

Spokane can re-sign players from its 2012 roster beginning Oct. 15.

• The Shock will hold two minicamps in search of new players: Dec. 8 in Spokane and Jan. 12 in Dallas. Cost is $100. The workouts will include testing in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle and broad jump, as well as positional and 1-on-1 drills.
