WSU volleyball falls in three

Washington State’s volleyball team is still searching for its first Pac-12 win after the Cougars were swept by Colorado Friday night in Boulder, Colo., 25-17, 25-17, 29-27.

Jaicee Harris had nine kills and 11 digs and Marcelina Glab had four aces to lead WSU (10-7, 0-5). The Buffaloes (12-5, 2-3) were led by Alexis Austin’s 16 kills.

• Marie Rewick had 19 kills and 11 digs as Pacific (6-9, 5-2) edged host Whitworth (5-9, 1-6) in a Northwest Conference match, 25-15, 13-25, 20-25, 25-13, 15-13.

Nicole Leonard had 20 kills and 12 digs and Maddye Dinsmore had 45 assists and 21 digs for the Pirates.

• Tambre Haddock and Kelley Arnold had 14 kills apiece as Northern Colorado (13-4, 6-2) beat Eastern Washington 25-19, 25-22, 28-26 in a Big Sky Conference match in Cheney.

The Eagles (0-19, 0-8) were led by Kelsey Julian’s 10 kills.

• Freshman Jenna Ellis had six aces and Idaho (7-10, 5-2) beat Seattle (6-11, 1-6) in five sets in a Western Athletic Conference match in Seattle. The win was the Vandals’ fourth straight.

• Krista Vansant led three players in double figures with 17 kills as No. 2 Washington (14-0, 5-0) beat Utah (9-9, 0-5) in a Pac-12 match in Salt Lake City, 25-14, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20.

• Kaitlyn Molloy had 13 kills and HayleeMae Dennis four aces and nine digs as North Idaho (15-2, 2-2) swept Colorado Northwestern (0-16, 0-4) 25-16, 25-15, 25-10 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play at Rangely, Colo.

Sean Sears’ goal in the 101st minute gave Loyola Marymount a 2-1 double-overtime win over Gonzaga in Los Angeles and kept the Bulldogs winless in the West Coast Conference.

The Lions (3-6-2, 1-1-1) got on the board first after John McFarlin scored in the 23rd minute. GU’s Clark Phillips answered in the 62nd minute with a header off a free kick. Sears’ winner was also a header. The Bulldogs fell to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in the WCC.

• Quinton Beasley scored in the 27th minute and Washington (6-3-2, 1-0-1) played to a 1-1 draw with host San Diego State (4-4-2, 0-2-1) in a Pac-12 match.

• North Idaho played to a scoreless draw with Gonzaga’s club team in Coeur d’Alene.

Women’s soccer

Courtney Tinnin’s 13th-minute goal proved to be the difference as Arizona State (6-6-1, 2-2) blanked Washington State 1-0 in a Pac-12 match in Pullman.

The Cougars (7-4-1, 1-2-1) held a 20-14 advantage in shots, but were unable to get anything past Sun Devils’ goalkeeper Chandler Morris, who made seven saves.

• Cassie Black’s first collegiate hat trick lifted Eastern Washington (5-6-2, 2-2-1) to a 4-1 win over North Dakota (2-8-1, 0-4) in a Big Sky match at Cheney.

North Dakota’s Taryn MacMillan opened the scoring at 17:45, but Black scored the next three goals. The Eagles’ Caitlin Hepworth capped the scoring with a goal in the 86th minute.

• Arizona’s Jessica Culver scored in the eighth minute, but Washington’s Falon Miller answered early in the second half as the Wildcats (5-5-3, 1-1-2) and Huskies (8-3-2, 1-2-1) played to a 1-1 draw in a Pac-12 match in Seattle.

Lindsay Elston assisted on Miller’s goal, which came in the 47th minute. Washington held a 20-6 advantage in shots, including 5-1 in the two scoreless overtime periods.

Junior hockey

Alex Marmon scored twice to lead the Spokane Braves (3-4-0-0) to a 3-2 double-overtime win over Castlegar (4-2-2-0) in KIJHL play at Castlegar, B.C.
