Gary Kalsin “Kal” Sanders passed away at Spokane Veterans Hospital on August 28, 2012 at the age of 62.
Kal is survived by his mother, Mary Alcorn; his brothers, Jack and Jim Stewart; his sister, Tina Davis; his two sons Erik and Aaron Sanders, and his
grandchildren Trystin, Maya and Matthew Sanders.
Kal was born in Kodiak, AK on April 2, 1950.
He graduated from East Valley High School in 1968 and went on to earn several degrees including a Bachelor’s degree in Business at Eastern Washington University.
He was an aspiring Astrophysicist and pursued a graduate’s degree at the University of WA.
He also worked for many years as a Bank Auditor.
Kal was the grandson of Howard and Evelyn Sanders who were the founders of The Community Church of the Bible Church on Sullivan Rd.
Kal enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1968 and was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran.
He stayed in after the war until 1980 as a U.S. Marines reserve.
He was honorably discharged as an E-5 Sergeant.
Kal was very passionate about astronomy.
If you had a chance to look up at the stars with him he could tell you all about the constellations and the different planets.
He was also a very gifted skier, scuba diver and musician.
He could play the guitar, steel guitar, the accordion and piano.
He also was an avid fan of Science Fiction.
He loved his friends and family very much and will be sorely missed.
