Tyson an inspiration

In reading about the lessons learned from cross country in the recent article by Mike Vlahovich, I think of the reasons why I chose my profession.

I was not a runner for Pat Tyson at Mead High School, but a student of his and he inspired me to go into education and coaching. In the classroom, Tyson always made you feel a part of the team. He has the ability to make everyone feel good about what they have done – at any level. This is a true gift.

The list is longer than can be printed of the people he has touched with his gift of inspiration. The lessons that I have learned from him and his philosophy are thought of every day. It’s the, “What would Tyson do?” mentality.

In coaching circles, Tyson is legend, but he is more than that. He has been a model for so many people who have had the chance to be around him. All people are equal in his eyes and this is an attitude more people need to foster.

Pat Tyson has inspired me to teach and coach and I could not think of a better role model to use as a blueprint.
