Ex-Peace Corps worker faces prison for sex abuse

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A former Peace Corps volunteer will learn how much time he will spend in prison for sexually abusing four young girls while serving in South Africa.

Jesse Osmun of Milford, Conn., pleaded guilty in June to traveling from the United States to engage in illicit sexual conduct with children.

He faces between 14 and 21 years in prison under federal guidelines when he is sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Hartford.

Federal prosecutors say he deserves a harsh sentence because he preyed on children at an AIDS orphanage who were among the poorest in the world. Authorities say the victims were between the ages of 3 and 6.

Osmun’s attorney says his client is remorseful and has accepted responsibility for his actions.
