Locker, Ringer out for Titans

Associated Press

Tennessee coach Mike Munchak says quarterback Jake Locker will miss his second straight game with an injured left shoulder when the Titans play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.

Munchak also said Monday that running back Javon Ringer will miss four to six weeks after spraining his left knee.

Ringer was hurt in the second half of a 30-7 loss at Minnesota on Sunday. Munchak said that Ringer injured the medial collateral ligament in his knee.

Munchak said Locker is improving but Matt Hasselbeck will get his second straight start due to the short week. Locker will not be active.

RG3 ‘looks good’

Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan says “right now it looks good” that Robert Griffin III will be able to play Sunday.

Shanahan said Griffin was experiencing no dizziness, headaches or vomiting Monday, a day after the No. 2 overall draft pick suffered a concussion in a loss to Atlanta.

Gaither injured

NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth saw something wrong with San Diego left tackle Jared Gaither and predicted that New Orleans Saints defensive end Martez Wilson would sack Philip Rivers to end Monday night’s game.

Chargers coach Norv Turner wasn’t alerted to Gaither’s injury, either by the player or an assistant coach. Sure enough, with the Chargers desperately trying for the tying touchdown in the final seconds, Wilson blew past the hobbled Gaither on Rivers’ blind side for the strip-sack and recovered the fumble to preserve the Saints’ first victory.

Fan gets throat slashed

Authorities say a Chicago fan who came to Jacksonville for the Bears-Jaguars game had his throat slashed inside a bar.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said 42-year-old William C. “Chris” Pettry died early Sunday inside Fionn MacCool’s, an Irish-themed restaurant.

Twenty-seven-year-old Matthew Hinson is being held without bond on a murder charge. The Florida-Times Union reported on Monday that witnesses told detectives Hinson cut Pettry’s throat after the victim had been talking with the suspect’s wife. Detectives say Hinson then put the bloody knife in his pocket and calmly walked out of the restaurant.
