Of Priest River, ID passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 2nd, 2012.

Dave was born March 7, 1943 in Port Townsend, WA to Sylvia and Louis Nees, and raised in the Spokane Valley.

He graduated from West Valley High School in 1961 and later went on to obtain a Bachelors degree from Washington State University, and a Masters in Education from Eastern Washington University.

Dave was a teacher and a principal in Washington and Idaho, and retired from Nine Mile Falls School District in 2001.

Throughout his life Dave was an avid outdoorsman.

He spent some of his best times with family and friends hunting at Elk Camp, fishing the banks of trout-filled streams, and skiing in the mountains of the Northwest.

Both in his career and personal life, Dave’s passion for teaching was evident.

Along with 35 years of public education service, he spent 10 years as a Special Olympics volunteer ski instructor at Mt.

Spokane, and eight years at the Schweitzer Mountain Ski School.

Dave loved teaching and mentoring, and his positive impact on all those around him truly was a blessing.

Dave is survived by his wife, Susan Nees of Priest River, ID; his sons Matthew Nees, Sammamish, WA, Jason Nees, Issaquah, WA, Zack Nees, Sandpoint, ID, Brady and Rylie Murray, of Portland, OR; two grandchildren Claire and Will.

A memorial service was held Monday, October 8th 2012 at 11:00am at the Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home, 423 West 2nd St. Newport, WA.
