Obituary: Chapman, Bernice S.

Age 91

CHAPMAN, Bernice S.

Bernice S. Chapman passed away October 4, 2012 at home surrounded by her family.

Bernice was born to William and Albertine Smigaj in Helena, MT on November 22, 1920.

In her early years, she lived with her parents in the mining town of Marysville where she attended elementary and high school.

Her family consisted of two brothers and one sister of which she was the oldest.

She met her future husband, Myrle Chapman in high school.

Romance flourished and they were married July 18, 1939 in Great Falls, MT without much fanfare.

Their first home was in Marysville.

After a stint in the Army Air Corps, Bernice, Myrle, and five year old son Myrl Jr. moved to Moses Lake to farm potatoes with family.

Son number two, Paul joined the family in 1947.

The family moved back to Spokane and settled near Shadle Park.

Their third son, Clark was born in 1949.

The fourth son, Jeff came along in 1958.

14 grandkids and 20 great-grandkids later, Bernice has had a full and happy life.

She lost Myrle in 1988.

She was a spunky, feisty lady whose first concern was other people.

She actually broke her wrist a few years back trying out her grandson’s skateboard.

She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

A funeral will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 1 pm.
