WSU, Idaho succeed at Las Cruces tournament

Third-place Mallory Kent (1-over-par 217) led Washington State (881) to second place and second-place Kaitlyn Oster (216) led Idaho (883) to third place Wednesday at the 13-team Price’s Give ’Em Five Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament at Las Cruces, N.M.

Idaho’s Rachel Choi tied for fifth at 218.

Kansas (871) won the tournament, led by medalist Yupaporn Kawinpakorn (213).

• Victoria Fallgren tied for 16th at 12-over 228 and helped Gonzaga (933) tied for seventh place at the 16-team Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.

Volleyball

Kate Hart had 11 kills and 10 blocks to lead Community Colleges of Spokane (18-5, 6-2 NWAACC) to a 3-0 win at Walla Walla (20-6, 6-2).

The Sasquatch win tied the teams for second place in the East Division.

Men’s soccer

Zach Allert assisted on Isaac Peter’s goal in the ninth minute to give CC Spokane (5-5-1, 3-4-0 NWAACC) a 1-0 win over Columbia Basin (6-5-2, 3-4-1) at Spokane Falls CC.

Women’s soccer

Clara Merlino’s goal in the 78th minute allowed visiting Whitman (3-8-2, 2-5-2 Northwest Conference) to forge a 1-all tie with Whitworth.

Tiara Pajimola scored her seventh goal of the season, off a feed from Carly Schilperoort, to give the Pirates (6-5-2, 6-1-2) a 1-0 lead less than 30 seconds before the Missionaries’ goal.

• Kat Tsoukalas scored twice and Tasha Luu had one goal and one assist while leading East Division-leading CC Spokane (8-1-2, 7-1-1 NWAACC) to a 4-2 win over Columbia Basin (3-5-2, 2-5-2) at Spokane Falls CC. CCS has outscored rivals 47-8.

Women’s swimming

Idaho swimmer Rachel Millet (Ferris High) and diver Paige Hunt were selected as the Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week.

Men’s basketball

Suspended University of Idaho center Kyle Barone was arrested on a DUI charge over the weekend.

Barone was arrested on the Washington State University campus early Sunday after a campus police officer saw a vehicle stopped in the wrong lane and then saw it cross both lanes of traffic into a parking space, where it hit a curb.

The police report says Barone’s blood-alcohol level at the scene was 0.186 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
