Book Notes: Author Six sets regional visits

Eva Gayle Six, author of the historical novel “Jennie’s Tiger,” has a couple of author events planned around the region this month.

She will be at the Meyers Falls Market in Kettle Falls, 160 E. Third Ave., from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 21 and at Hastings in Coeur d’Alene, 101 E. Best Ave., from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 28.

Six, who lives along the Pend Oreille River in Cusick, Wash., based her self-published novel on true events. The story centers on a pioneering woman, Jennie Wooding, who raised her family on a successful farm in Tiger Landing, Wash., located in the Selkirk Mountains. The source material comes from a few pages Wooding wrote about those days when she was in her 80s.

Dinosaur event

Spokane writer Kelly Milner Halls will present an afternoon of dinosaur discovery from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Colfax branch of the Whitman County Library.

She’ll bring fossil replicas and use her books “Dinosaur Mummies,” “Dinosaur Parade” and “Hatchlings” to bring the subject into focus.

The Friends of the Whitman County Library sponsor this free event. For information, call the library at (877) 733-3375, visit the Whitman County Library page on Facebook, or go online at www.whitco.lib.wa.us. The library is at 102 S. Main St.

EReader training

Speaking of the Whitman County Library …

Now that the library has purchased new Nook eReaders, thanks to a grant from eReads in eWA, it’s time to learn how to use them.

Come to the Colfax library on Monday between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to learn how to use the library’s two Nook Simple Touches or two preloaded mp3 players. Or, bring your own device and get tips on how to use it.

EReads in eWA is administered by the Washington State Library. The Whitman County Library, Neill Public Library in Pullman, Asotin County Library, Denny Ashby Library in Pomeroy, Columbia County and Walla Walla County Rural Districts all participate. For more information about the workshop or to request a preloaded device, contact Whitman County Library at (509) 397-4366.
