Raymond Samuel Caruso, age 70, died on September 11, 2012 in Ridgecrest, CA.
He fought bravely with a chronic illness for over 20 years and finally succumbed to a heart attack after a brief hospitalization.
Ray was born on December 27, 1941, in Spokane, Washington, to Phil and Margaret Caruso.
He graduated from Gonzaga Prep High School, and from Gonzaga University in 1965 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
After graduating, Ray joined the Army, and during the Vietnam War, he managed a radar site in Thailand.
Ray then began working for the Naval Weapons Center in China Lake, CA in 1967.
During his career, he cherished the exciting and challenging work done with his esteemed colleagues.
He concurrently taught for many years at Cerro Coso Community College, CA.
Upon retiring from the NWC in January 1993, he was awarded the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sally Caruso, of Ridgecrest; daughter Jennifer Caruso, of Glendora, CA; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Mike Dye, of San Diego, CA; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Andrea Caruso, of Lake Balboa, CA; grandchildren: Sophia and Emma Caruso, of Lake Balboa; Madison and Wyatt Dye, of San Diego; sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Jim Stephens, of Spokane; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Mary Caruso, of Spokane; in laws: Patricia and John Luce, of Spokane; Mark and Jamie Luce, of Mukilteo, WA; Peggy and Mike Gudgell, of Seattle, WA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Phil and Margaret Caruso, his brother Lowell Caruso, and in-laws Don and Betty Luce.
The memorial service was held at St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Ridgecrest on September 22.
Interment will be held at Fairmont Cemetery in Spokane on October 20 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ridgecrest Regional Hospital Foundation’s Tree of Life.
He loved us every day of his life; we will miss him every day of ours.
