Stan was born March 9, 1930 in Wenatchee, WA to Lelah and Virgil Porter. He passed away at home October 10, 2012 in Spokane Valley, WA at the age of 82.
His family was involved in the logging industry and he attended schools throughout Washington and Idaho. In 1950 after high school in Colfax, WA, he joined the U.S. Army. Stan attended The U.S. Army Engineer’s School in Ft. Belvoir, VA and then spent time in Korea serving as a Sgt. in the 6th Army ERC Engineers.
Upon discharge, Stan returned to Spokane where he met and married his wife of 57 years, Shirley Markin.
Stan worked as a welder, supervisor and then an industrial engineer for Spokane Transformer Co., which later became Square D Corp. After retirement, he built their present home and spent his free time traveling in their RV, as well as fishing off his boat on Lake Pend O’reille. Summers were spent on Upper Twin Lakes at their cabin water skiing and swimming with the family. He looked forward to taking a yearly trip to Canada for salmon fishing. During the winters he would often make a trip to Hawaii or take his RV to Arizona. Stan also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes.
