Religion Notebook: Gospel quartet to give concert
Spokane First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., will present Liberty Quartet on Sunday at 10:45 a.m.
The group is a music ministry that travels more than 50,000 miles a year to perform at churches, prisons, nursing homes and more. The Southern-style gospel quartet is based in Meridian, Idaho.
The concert is free, but donations will be accepted.

• Latah Valley Presbyterian Church , 202 E. Meadowlane Road, will have a Taize service Sunday at 7 p.m.

• St. David’s Episcopal Church , 7315 N. Wall St., will offer a Celtic Communion service today at 7 p.m.
The theme is mindfulness, and the service will include Celtic prayers and readings, sung chants and special music.
A potluck will follow the service.
The church also offers Celtic Eucharist celebrations Sundays at 11 a.m., and the church’s traditional service is Sundays at 9 a.m.

Lectures and book studies
• Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., will host “Chanting 101,” a lecture by Sensei Paul Vielle, on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Learn why Buddhists chant, what the symbols on the page mean and who leads the chanting.
The lecture will be followed by the temple’s regular 10:30 a.m. service.

• Manito Presbyterian Church, 401 E. 30th Ave., will present its Pastor’s Book Study Group starting Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
The first book of this series will be “Bad Religion,” which will discuss the complex relationship between faith and politics.

Turning Point Open Bible Church, 11911 N. Division St., will hold a rummage sale to benefit the elderly of the church Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
