Community School adopts new menu

Beginning today, students at the Community School will see a change in their lunch menu, with items such as herb-roasted chicken, butternut macaroni and cheese and roasted vegetables.

The new menu is part of the school’s scratch cooking healthy program that will incorporate fresh produce grown in the school’s garden. The students’ meals will be cooked from scratch each day.

“We plan to take advantage of any whole food and scratch menu items that are producible and affordable for our districtwide menu,” said Doug Wordell, nutrition services director, in a news release. “As we review this pilot, we will look at the facets that can be duplicated in the rest of our district kitchens and find the best balance of providing a cost-effective menu that keeps classroom dollars in the classroom while incorporating more whole food items that improve the well being of all of our customers.”
