Cougar women fall just shy of No. 2 Stanford in soccer

Mariah Nogueira’s goal in the 62nd minute Thursday lifted second-ranked Stanford to a 3-2 win over Washington State in Pac-12 women’s soccer at Stanford, Calif.

The Cardinal (13-1-1, 7-0-0) won their 38th consecutive Pac-12 match.

Zoe Jeffers’ goal in the 39th minute allowed the Cougars (9-5-1, 3-3-1) to forge a 2-all tie.

Volleyball

Shay Sorensen, Josselyn White and Rachel Orr combined for 51 kills as Utah State (14-7, 9-2 Western Athletic Conference) snapped Idaho’s six-match winning streak with a 3-2 win at UI’s Memorial Gym.

Allison Walker led the Vandals (9-11, 7-3) with 19 kills.

• Kathleen Luft and Litara Keil combined for 27 kills while leading Loyola Marymount (12-9, 3-5 West Coast Conference) to a sweep at Gonzaga.

Savannah Blinn and Jordan Gasser combined for 23 kills for the Bulldogs (9-12, 1-7), which dropped their fifth consecutive match.

• Aubrey Mitchell’s 11 kills helped host Portland State (14-8, 10-1 Big Sky) to a sweep over Eastern Washington (0-22, 0-11).

Allie Schumacher had seven kills and seven digs for the Eagles.

Arena football

Offensive lineman/fullback Andrew Nierman and defensive back Terrance Sanders agreed to deals with the Spokane Shock for the 2013 and 2014 AFL seasons.
