Police investigate North Spokane shooting

The search continues today for a gunman who reportedly broke into a North Spokane apartment Thursday night and wounded one of the residents during a shootout. Spokane police officers were dispatched just after 9 p.m. to an apartment complex near the intersection of Colton Street and Magnesium Road, Officer Jennifer DeRuwe said in a news release. “Victims told detectives a man broke through a sliding glass door armed with a gun,” DeRuwe said. Teenagers inside the home yelled for their dad who was in another room. The teens’ father, described only as a man in his 50s, “grabbed his own firearm and confronted the suspect,” DeRuwe said. “Shots were exchanged between the two and the suspect fled.” The resident suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and is “expected to recover from his injuries,” DeRuwe said. “No one has been arrested in connection with this shooting and the motive remains unclear,” DeRuwe said. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
