Obituary: Jacobs, Lowell Edgar “Jake”

JACOBS,
Lowell Edgar “Jake”
March 14, 1914 -
October 19, 2012

Lowell Edgar Jacobs “Jake”, 98, a resident of Spokane for over 75 years, passed away in Shelton, Washington.

He was born in Seattle to Amos Edgar and Emma Frances Jacobs.

Lowell attended North Central High School, Washington State “College” and Pasadena Playhouse.

Later in life he earned both a bachelors and masters degree from Whitworth College.

Lowell and his wife Eleanor were long time residents of Spokane.

He worked with his father in the family bakery business and for Great Western Fuel Company.

He completed his career as Director of the Evening Programs at Spokane Falls Community College.

Lowell was nearly a 50 year Spokane Central Lions Club member.

In the mid-1990’s Lowell and his wife moved to Lacey, Washington to be near family.

Following his wife’s death, he moved to Shelton, Washington to be closer to his daughter.

Married to Eleanor Jean Groom for 63 years, together, they enjoyed family, travel and gardening.

Lowell loved to work with his hands.

Remodeling and adding additions to family homes or making delicious cinnamon rolls for family to enjoy were regular events in his life.

Lowell’s real joy, however, was in photography, model boat building and fishing.

He was always in search of that elusive silver or rainbow trout from Loon Lake, north of Spokane, while at the family cabin.

Until 94, he was still building model boats - many of which are now being proudly displayed by family.

Lowell was always mellow, upbeat, kind and gentle.

He was fun-loving and had a refreshingly naive humor with those who were around him.

How lucky we all were to have him as a part of our lives for so very long.

Lowell is survived by his son Steve, daughter, Jann (Siegert/Bonnett), daughter-in-law Kathy Jacobs, son-in-law Bob Bonnett; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Bech, Eva Lu (Groom/Pope), and Mildred Jacobs; three grandchildren: Tyson Siegert, Jaime (Jacobs/Hoener), Shelby (Jacobs/Weigand); five great-grandchildren: Otto and Greta Siegert, Brodie and Cruz Hoener, and Piper Weigand, and, many nieces and nephews that have always been an active part of his life.

Lowell was pre-deceased by his wife Eleanor (Groom), brother Franklin, sister Dorothy (Jacobs/Helsby), and grandsons Kip and Erik Siegert
