Trojans return to State 5A volleyball

Savannah Hill had nine kills and five aces, and the Post Falls volleyball team guaranteed itself a fourth- straight trip to the Idaho state tournament with a sweep of Borah in a 5A play-in match Saturday at Grangeville High School.

Scores were 25-20, 25-19 and 25-17.

Brenna Meehan had 20 assists and 14 digs and Dani Failor chipped in four blocks for the Trojans (17-22).

Post Falls will play Timberline in the first round of the state tournament Friday at Bonneville High School.

Idaho 3A play-in: Melissa Trost had 10 kills as Priest River earned a state tournament berth with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 win over Buhl at McCall-Donnelly High School.

The Spartans will take on Shelley in the first round next Friday.

Idaho 1A play-in: Ruth Haynes had 12 blocks and eight kills as Kamiah swept Lakeside in St. Maries. Scores were 25-22, 25-19 and 25-9.

Kamiah earned a state tournament berth. The Knights were eliminated.

GNL: After winning two straight Northeast A League titles, it was more of the same for Colville after moving to the Great Northern League this season. Sadie Learn had 10 kills and Leanna Carr dished out 27 assists as the Indians (12-0) swept visiting Clarkston (2-10) to complete a perfect season in league play. Scores were 25-9, 25-8 and 25-14. … Callie Hanson had a match-high 41 assists and five aces as East Valley (9-3) won 25-7, 25-12, 22-25, 25-12 at Deer Park (1-11). Bailey Juris and Elisha Allred had 11 kills apiece for the Knights. … Brittani Harvey and Diana Logan had seven kills apiece as Pullman (9-3) made quick work of Cheney (6-6), beating the Blackhawks 25-18, 25-22, 25-15 in Pullman.

Girls soccer

GNL: Pullman (15-1, 12-0) outscored Cheney 3-2 in a shootout and beat the Blackhawks (6-9, 5-7) 2-1 to secure its first undefeated campaign in the Great Northern League. Becky Birchett opened the scoring in the 26th minute. Cheney’s Chae Brown responded in the 69th minute. Bre Daugherty, Birchett and Stephanie Winchell scored shootout goals for the Greyhounds. … Kaitlin Palanuik scored twice to lead East Valley (9-6, 8-4) to a 10-1 win at Deer Park (4-12, 2-10). The Knights scored nine second-half goals. The win gave East Valley a share for second place with West Valley. … Leah Edens and Bailee Wohl scored and Clarkston (8-5, 7-5) blanked Colville (1-14, 0-12) 2-0 in Colville.
