Whitworth pops Pacific in men’s soccer

Andrew French had a goal and an assist as host No. 9 Whitworth topped Pacific 3-1 in a Northwest Conference soccer match.

French assisted on Robby Ubben’s goal in the 15th minute. He then scored in the 30th minute to put the Pirates ahead 2-0.

Karl Muelheims scored early in the second half to give Whitworth a 3-0 lead.

The Pirates improved to 11-0-3 overall and 8-0-2 in the NWC.

Pacific fell to 4-11 and 2-8 in conference.

Women’s soccer

Hannah Bokman’s header off a corner kick in the 98th minute lifted Whitworth (8-5-2, 8-1-2) to a 1-0 overtime win over Pacific (5-7-3, 3-7-1) in a Northwest Conference match in Spokane.

Carly Schilperoort assisted on the winner.

• Tasha Luu had two goals and two assists as Community Colleges of Spokane (11-1-2, 10-1-1) scored early and often in an 8-1 win over Yakima Valley (2-9-3, 2-8-2) in an NWAACC match at Spokane Falls Community College.

Alli Floyd also scored twice for the Sasquatch, who led 6-1 at half.

Volleyball

Pepperdine (16-7, 5-4) hit a red-hot .494 and cruised to an easy win over Gonzaga in West Coast Conference action in Spokane.

The Bulldogs (9-13, 1-7) were led by freshman Jordan Gasser’s 12 kills.

• Madisyn Leenstra and Carly Hargrave combined for 22 kills as Willamette (7-12, 5-7) beat Whitworth 25-15, 25-11, 21-25, 25-14 in a Northwest Conference match in Salem, Ore.

Jalana White had 12 kills, Maddye Dinsmore dished out 30 assists and Nicole Leonard had 22 digs to lead the Pirates (7-12, 3-9).

• Katelyn Peterson had 17 kills and Jenny Feicht dished out 45 assists as Idaho beat San Jose State (10-12, 6-6) 25-17, 26-24, 23-25, 25-7 in a Western Athletic Conference match in Moscow, Idaho.

Allison Walker and Alyssa Schultz added 11 kills apiece for the Vandals (10-11, 8-3).

Rowing

Two Washington State women’s varsity boats won flights at the Head of Spokane in Spokane.

The Cougars’ varsity 8-plus boat won the second flight in 19 minutes, 2 seconds. GU was second in 19:06.

In the fourth flight, WSU’s varsity 4-plus boat was the first women’s team to cross. They finished in 21:47.

The GU men’s third varsity 8-plus boat won the flight in 18:40.

Next for Washington State is the Portland Loop Oct. 28 in Portland.

Men’s golf

Washington followed up its first-round 287 with another 287 in the second round of the U.S. Collegiate Championship at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.

The Huskies are tied for seventh and trail UCLA by 14 strokes.

Chris Williams (Moscow, Idaho) shot a 78 and is tied for 56th at 9 over.

Junior hockey

Trevor Hanna’s hat trick helped Creston Valley (4-6-0-2) beat Spokane 6-3 in a KIJHL game in Spokane.

Justin Loepker, Alex Peltram and Paxton Bell tallied goals for the Braves (4-8-1-0).
