Cheney girls shut out Clarkston
Katy McNair scored the match’s only goal as Cheney blanked host Clarkston 1-0 in the first round of the District 7 2A girls soccer playoffs on Thursday.
McNair kicked the ball into the net with her left foot from about 20 yards out in the 31st minute. Goaltender Montana Andrews made 13 saves for the fifth-seeded Blackhawks (7-9 overall), who advance to the semifinals and travel to play Great Northern League champion Pullman on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Mychael Tenwick had 10 saves for the fourth-seeded Bantams (8-6), whose season is over.
In the day’s other 2A district game, third seed and host East Valley (10-6) swamped sixth-seeded Deer Park (4-13) 9-1.
Madison Meade scored three goals and Nikki Roemer two in the win.
The Knights will travel to play second-seeded West Valley at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
District 7 1A: No. 3 seed Newport (9-6) overwhelmed host and No. 2 seed Freeman (8-5-1) 7-0.
The Grizzlies advance to play top-seeded Lakeside (12-3) at Gonzaga Prep at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The match will determine the 1-2 seeds to the Bi-District tournament.
Sydney Hearnden scored three goals to lead the Grizzlies.
Freeman, which had split two regular-season matches with Newport, was without key player Hailey McClure, who was injured. The Scotties’ season ended with the loss.
