Redskins’ Fletcher might end 15-year start streak
Washington Redskins linebacker London Fletcher was being evaluated by a neurologist for a possible head injury Thursday and missed practice for a second consecutive day, putting his 15-year consecutive-games streak in doubt.
Coach Mike Shanahan said Fletcher was checked for about six hours by a doctor for a “balance issue.” Shanahan listed the 37-year-old Fletcher as not practicing because of head and hamstring problems.
Fletcher has appeared in 231 NFL games in a row since entering the league as an undrafted rookie with the St. Louis Rams in 1998.

Fletcher has appeared in 231 NFL games in a row since entering the league as an undrafted rookie with the St. Louis Rams in 1998.
He left Washington’s 27-23 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday in the second half with what the team said was a right hamstring injury.
The Redskins (3-4) are at the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3) on Sunday.
Fletcher’s consecutive-games streak is the longest among active players, and the second longest for any defensive player since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger.
The Redskins continue to be without receiver Pierre Garcon, who said Thursday he’s hoping to avoid surgery after a doctor told him he has a torn ligament on the bottom of his right foot.
Surgery for Jennings
The Green Bay Packers’ No. 1 wide receiver Greg Jennings will have surgery Tuesday to repair the groin injury that has limited him to three games this season.
Jennings didn’t give a timetable for his return, but says the recovery won’t end his season.
Porter seeks clearance
Denver Broncos cornerback Tracy Porter missed practice to see a doctor about symptoms he continues to experience following a seizure he suffered in August.
Porter is hoping to get medical clearance to play Sunday night against the New Orleans Saints, his former team.
Porter, who had no history of seizures, wasn’t allowed to fly to the Broncos’ last game, at San Diego on Oct. 15, after he began experiencing light-headedness and a racing heart – similar to the symptoms he felt before his seizure, team spokesman Patrick Smyth said.
Smyth emphasized Porter didn’t suffer a second seizure but was left back in Denver as a precaution. Porter returned to practice on a limited basis this week.
Browns sale finalized
The Cleveland Browns officially belong to Jimmy Haslam. His $1.05 billion purchase of the NFL franchise from Randy Lerner was closed, just nine days after the sale was approved by the league’s owners. Haslam now owns 70 percent of the team, and the truck stop magnate will get the other 30 percent from Lerner in four years.
