NW football: Lutes shake slow start, whip Loggers

Dalton Ritchey threw a pair of touchdown passes and Cody Pohren rushed for 100 yards and a score to power the Pacific Lutheran Lutes (5-2, 4-1) to a 41-14 win over Puget Sound (0-7, 0-4) in Northwest Conference football Saturday in Tacoma.

Braden Foley had two first-half TD passes for the Loggers, who led 7-0 and 14-7 before giving up 34 unanswered points.

The two teams combined for 10 turnovers in the rain-soaked game.

Humboldt State 14, Central Washington 10: Ryan Moreno scored on a 20-yard interception return and Nick Ricciardulli added a 1-yard TD plunge early in the fourth quarter as the Lumberjacks (7-2, 6-2) handed the Wildcats (5-4, 5-3) their second straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference loss, in Arcata, Calif.

CWU’s lone TD came in the first quarter on a 4-yard run by Demetrius Sumler. Sean Davis hit a 29-yard FG with 5:29 left to play.

Southern Oregon 52, Carroll College 49: Austin Dodge completed 27 of 38 passes for 526 yards and a pair of TD tosses to Cole McKenzie, who finished with 11 catches for 234 yards, and the 19th-ranked Raiders (6-2, 6-2) upset the NAIA No. 6 Fighting Saints (6-3, 6-2) in Frontier Conference play in Ashland, Ore. Manny Barragan rushed for 158 yards and two scores for the Raiders.

Dakota Stonehouse passed for 233 yards and four TDs and ran for 196 yards and a score for the Saints. Chance Demarais added 139 rushing yards with a TD.
