Martin Earl “Marty” Hibbs, 76, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2012 after battling multiple illnesses.

He was born in the winter of 1936 in Colfax, Washington, to Earl and Esther Hibbs; homesteaders living deep in Hells Canyon, up the Snake River.

He went on to attend WSU and EWU, and served in both the Air Force and Army; receiving the Bronze Star for Viet Nam and retiring as Chief Warrant Officer 3.

Marty was a pioneer, a rancher, musician, football player, veteran, mentor, road rally driver, world traveler, HAM radio operator, Zoning Board volunteer, Press Club member, avid reader, fisherman, amateur winemaker, Western history enthusiast, poker player, and family man.

His interests and hobbies were many, as were the friends with which he shared them.


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Hallie.

He is survived by his brother Andy Hibbs of Kooskia Idaho, sister Nancy (Hibbs) Able of Hermiston Oregon, son A. Glen Hibbs of Spokane, Washington, daughter Shannon (Carl) Buxton of Poulsbo, Washington, and granddaughters Johanna and Halley Buxton.

A memorial wake will held on Veterans Day, November 11 at 3:30pm at the Perry Street CafĂŠ in Spokane, WA.
