McMorris Rodgers for the rich

I recently attended the town hall meeting held by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, and was impressed by the tenacious manner in which she clings to the idea that if we just keep heaping benefits upon the wealthy that this will certainly trickle down to the working class.

President George W. Bush’s tax cuts should prove or disprove that thesis. These massive tax cuts for the rich were supposed to go to “job creators” who would in turn hire the middle class. How has that worked out? Most of that largess must have been stashed in Swiss bank accounts and tax shelters that allow the rich to maintain their 14 percent tax rates. The suckers that work for a living continue to pay at a much higher rate.

Cathy now insists that the only way to deal with the resulting budget deficits is to gut Medicare by turning it into a voucher program and by turning the Medicaid program for the poor, the handicapped and elderly back to the cash-starved states. She was certainly taken aback when confronted by the parent of a handicapped child who would be directly affected by her position on this program.

Does Cathy really represent our interests?
